Dream Reflections

I was reflecting upon the fact that I had reached out to my niece and shared some of the things I have been experiencing lately, because I was feeling alone and isolated. Also, it is unlike me to share what I see with anyone. She also has had her own experiences and expresses it well in her writing. While I was engaged in these reflections; I was at the same time clicking the beads on my bracelet keeping my mind involved in the present moment. While I was musing over this I recalled a dream I had recently. Suddenly I was seeing the meaning of the dream for the first time.

In the dream it starts out with me setting up in bed feeling like I need a hug and my husband gave me a big hug.  I felt his arms wrapping around me and I felt my arms wrapped around his chest, it felt good.  Then I looked down and saw him laying next to me.  Feeling confused I said to him “did you just give me a hug” he said “no”.  Feeling puzzled I said you know a lot of very strange things have been happening to me lately. So I shared with him all the things that have been happening to me over the last few months.  When I see things I keep them to myself, things like waking visions, seeing flashes of light and orbs of all colors, etc. we spoke for what felt like seemed for hours.  Again the dream switched and I realized my husband was not home. He had spent the night in Bismarck for a doctor's appointment.  I suddenly woke up saying to myself damn I have been dreaming.  Lately the division between wake and sleep are not divided, usually I am aware of the fact I am sleeping.  The whole incident left me unsettled and I stayed awake for an hour or so before I went back to sleep.

This afternoon my husband and I were on our way to Minot and I suddenly realized what the dream meant, after reflecting upon my niece.  Often I feel alone because I keep what I see inside and do not speak to anyone about it.  I realized what the dream was telling me was to speak to my husband. Once I saw this a quote from Plotinus, (The Essential Plotinus Elmer O’Brien translation page168) entered into my view “ To learn,  we must not allow ideas to remain exterior to us, but fuse with them until they become part of our existence.  When this is done and our dispositions correspond, the soul is able to formulate and make use of them. It comprehends now what it merely contained before. Using them, the soul becomes, as it were, different;  only upon reflection does it find them to be aliens.

Nevertheless,  the soul itself is rational and a kind of intelligence that sees an object different from itself. It does not possess fullness and is deficient compared with its prior. Yet it beholds in silence what it expresses in words because verbal formulation is only of what it has already seen. If it speaks, it is because it is deficient and needs to inquire in order to know what it contains…Thus it is that the wise man is penetrated by reason and has wholly within himself what he manifests to others. He contemplates himself.  He achieves unity and immobility not only in regard to external objects but also in regard to things within himself. He finds all things within himself.”

The section of the quote I want to focus upon is the part: “If it speaks, it is because it is deficient and needs to inquire in order to know what it contains.” What I need to do is express out loud what I am seeing within.  In doing so I can look at it and view it from all sides truly seeing what I am holding within. Seeing clearly what I am holding within I can formulate and make use of those things I am seeing. Now I can formulate and make use of those ideas I merely contained before.

So to conclude I need to verbally express what I am seeing to my husband so I can see the visions etc I am having so I can see what I have within.  Plotinus the soul only speaks to see what it contains.

I have spent the afternoon staying in the moment. As a consequence I have come to see is that beauty is only experienced in the moment.  Even though you can bring the experience of beauty into the moment through memories, however, the actual experience is only in the present. The more you rest in the present the more beautiful you become.  The more you are able to maintain your pure focus upon beauty the more the pure light of beauty shines within you. That light that shines bright within you comes from the Intellect focusing upon the Good.
